Marsha Regenstein, PhD, is a professor of health policy in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University. She is an experienced researcher, having led dozens of studies using surveys, case studies, in-depth qualitative interviews, focus groups and cost analyses. Her most recent projects have focused on California hospitals and their use of quality improvement to advance equity; community health centers and their critical role in primary care for low-income, rural and under-resourced communities; community benefit in California hospitals; community-based primary care training; access to care for people with life-long chronic conditions; public health responses to COVID-19; and improving the quality and availability of language services, especially in safety net settings. She served as the Director of Research and Evaluation for the National Center for Medical-Legal Partnership. She has also focused on language services delivery and associated disparities in health. Regenstein led Speaking Together, a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation-funded multi-site project designed to improve the quality of language services in hospitals. For ten years, she directed the Doctor of Public Health program at the Milken Institute School of Public Health.  Previously, she was vice president of research for the National Association of Public Hospitals and Health Systems (now America’s Essential Hospitals) and vice president of the Economic and Social Research Institute. She has a PhD in health policy from George Washington University, a Master of City Planning from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and a BA in American Studies from Brandeis University.
